In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, Bruce Springsteen drove to the beach. While sitting in his car, a man in a car next to his recognized him, rolled down his window, and yelled, "We need you now!" Approximately ten months later, he released The Rising, which was the first album he had released with the full E Street Band since Born in the U.S.A. in 1984.
On Thursday morning, I was in my office working with Sirius XM's E Street Radio on in the background. At or about 8:00 am, Jim Rotolo shared "breaking news". On October 23, 2020, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are releasing a new album, Letter To You.
Nineteen years ago, had I been the man in the car next to Springsteen's I would not have had the temerity to call him to action. I have sat no more than a couple of seats away from him at a bar and have stood next to him at the Stone Pony watching live music and on neither occasion did I say anything beyond, "Hey". Had I had the chance to run into him anywhere these past several, seemingly endless months, I again would not have had it in me to give him a rallying cry.
Nevertheless I am as happy now as I was all those years ago. For just when I needed it most, a new dose of the elixir for my soul that his music provides has arrived...

I did as well and am counting the days until its arrival.
