Saturday morning I did something that I had not done since the Manasquan Mid-Winter Beach Run in February. I ran in an official, timed road race. It was the 5th Annual Lobster Run, which is an event that raises money for the American Littoral Society.
It was a simply gorgeous and unexpectedly warm first Saturday of November here in New Jersey. I ran in the race with my running buddy, Gidg, and we were in the 9:00 a.m. wave (start times were staggered to enhance social distancing, which worked quite well). To limit any pre-race crowding, participants were permitted to arrive on-site no earlier than 30 minutes prior to your wave's start time, which times were 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, and 10:30. Once I picked up my bib and t-shirt and stashed them in my car, I had some time to kill. I spent it enjoying just how beautiful a morning it was on the Asbury Park Boardwalk.
3.1 miles after the commencement of hostilities, the race was run. My finishing time might make an uninformed observer think that runners were required to complete the course while carrying a large crustacean on our back. If only that was true.
Post-race, I did take one "proof of life" photograph.
