Life's Greatest Song

Dave Grohl

Today is Mom's birthday.  Dave Grohl is right.  Without her, there would have been no music.

Not even a single note.  Happy Birthday, Mom.

  2. When Parents Die

Our parents ground us in the world. When they die, regardless of how old we are, the world becomes a different place.

They’ve been there since the day we were born…so it’s hard to imagine something that’s always been there…being gone.

When parents die…it’s like having your roots pulled out of the ground. They hold you in your place in the world like an anchor…and when that gets pulled up…you drift.

We may have always expected our parents to die first…but that doesn’t change the emptiness that still exists when they’re gone. You suddenly feel untethered in a world you weren’t prepared to enter.

After your parents are gone you learn who you are and who your parents were in your life. In a strange way the loss can make you feel even closer to them, especially if you didn’t have the opportunity to see them as often as you would have liked while they were alive.

Here’s the thing…it’s difficult to witness the end of a life…that gave you life.

You will always remember your parents…and the influence they had on you. The depth of their love and caring is everlasting. As you learn to live without them…their memory will always be buried deep in your heart…and they’ll continue to dwell in a special place in your soul.

Your parents gave you the gift of life…and they wouldn’t want you to waste it.

Living your life to the fullest is the best way to keep their memory alive, and cherish the love they left behind. All that your parents were, and all the love that you shared, will never die.

Honor the legacy they left behind…that now lives on in you…by living your life in a way that would make them proud.
