Edward Allegretto, Sr. was a self-made man. He grew up in Jersey City and earned a football scholarship to Montclair State. However, a serious knee injury suffered before he arrived at Montclair State rendered him unable to play, which in turn rendered the scholarship offer withdrawn. He ended up never going to college. It did not hold him back.
At age fifty-one, Edward Allegretto, Sr. had devoted more than twenty years of his life to building a career on Wall Street while he was simultaneously building a life he loved in Colonia, New Jersey with his wife Louisa and the couple's two children, Marisa and Edward Jr. On Tuesday, September 11, 2001 he was already in his World Trade Center office when the terrorists attacked the Twin Towers, where he worked as a convertible bonds trader for Cantor Fitzgerald, which firm he had joined in 1998.
Edward Allegretto, Sr. was a self-made man. He was a man who not only was self-made but a man who made a difference in the lives of his wife and his children; who made a difference in the lives of those around him; and who made a difference in the lives of those with whom he worked.
