Merriam-Webster offers three definitions of the word "united": (1) made one (COMBINED); (2) relating to or produced by joint action; and (3) being in agreement (HARMONIOUS). Do any of them apply presently to life in these United States?
In the absence of real leadership, anarchy abounds. It always has. It likely always will. While the reservoir of well-intended, selfless people shall never run dry, neither shall the reservoir of selfish assholes with bad intentions. It is incumbent upon those who have been elected to public office to do the hard things, to speak the hard truths, and to act for the greater good, whether it is popular or politically expedient.
It is neither a Democrat thing nor a Republican thing. It is an American thing...
...and the obligation for making sure it is done is the responsibility of each and every one of us.
